ODOT meeting about U.S. Route 30 cancelled
LISBON--The public meeting scheduled for Wednesday regarding the proposal to install new signing to reroute U.S. Route 30 in Columbiana County has been cancelled.
Rabies Clinic slated at Damascus Fire Station
DAMASCUS--The Damascus Ruritan Club along with the Mahoning County Board of Health have scheduled a Rabies Clinic for 1 to 4 p.m. April 13 at the Damascus Fire Department meeting room on state Route 534. All dogs must be on leashes, all cats must be in their cages. The cost is $ 8 per animal. During the event the Ruritan Club will be collecting non-perishable food items for those area residents in need.
Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society to meet Sunday
BOARDMAN--The Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will hold its next meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Calvary Baptist Church Social Hall, 1463 Shields Road. Certified Master Gardener Phyllis Mihalik will present the program on Organic Gardening in the area followed by a question and answer period as well as discussion of ongoing soil testing for gardens. The society's plant sale will be in May. All are welcome to attend.
Tri-County Medical Assistants to offer spring seminar
BOARDMAN--The Tri-County Chapter of Medical Assistants will hold their Spring Educational Seminar from 8 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn (Boardman), 7410 South Ave. The event will feature six CEUs, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle. Members, students and guests are welcome.
Salem LCBA to hold regular meeting Thursday
SALEM---Salem LCBA Branch 654 at St. Paul Catholic Church will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Rectory Meeting Room. During the business session to be conducted by President Rose Bedell, plans will be continued for upcoming fundraising events. Refreshments will be served by Sue Bowman and Carole Murray.
Threshold Residential Services to hold garage sale
EAST PALESTINE--Threshold Residential Services Inc. will hold a Dollar Days Garage Sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bus Garage located at 162 N. Walnut St. behind the Huntington Bank Building. Over 2,000 items for will be for sale including household goods, home decor, tools, toys, electrical and electronic items, seasonal items, books and videos and more. Bunker Hill UMC to host chicken and biscuit dinner
GOSHEN TOWNSHIP--Bunker Hill Methodist Church, 15096 Middletown Road, will be serving a Chicken and Biscuit Dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 13. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 5-12 years old. Children 4 and under are free. The menu will include chicken with biscuit, gravy, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, applesauce or coleslaw, cake and coffee or punch. Carry out is available. A Bake Sale will also be held. Lepper Library to celebrate National Library Week
LISBON--Lepper Library will hold a series of events celebrating National Library Week April 8 through 13.
The library will kick off the week with an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. April 8 during which visitors can tour the building, discover new apps like Libby and Lynda, enjoy refreshments, use the free WiFi, peruse the selection of circulating cake pans and ukuleles and more. Because the theme of this year's National Library Week is "Libraries = Strong Communities," some of the community leaders will be on hand to chat with the public. The Children's Librarian will also be reading stories and doing crafts with children.
On April 10, Preschool Storytime will be held as usual at 10 a.m. with stories and activities about eggs for children ages 5 and under.
The library will then offer a free Murder Mystery Dinner, "Pasta, Passion and Pistols," at 6 p.m. April 12. Space is limited, so register soon by calling the library at 330-424-3117 or messaging them on Facebook or Instagram.
To wrap up the week of celebration, April 13 will feature both a Saturday Storytime for children ages 3 to 8 at 11 a.m.; and then at 1 p.m. a book signing and short presentation by Steve Logston, author of "A Year of the Teacher."
The library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Columbiana County CAA taking HEAP, PIPP apps
LISBON--The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County is taking applications for State HEAP and Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP Plus) at the local office located at 7860 Lincole Place, Lisbon. Neither program will offer immediate assistance with utility bills.
Applications for State HEAP are available at post offices, libraries and utility companies throughout Columbiana County. For information on State HEAP call 1-800-282-0880. If a household does not bring the required information to complete the application, they will be required to schedule another appointment or bring the information back during walk-in hours. Those lined up at the door will be considered first in line.
April and June walk-in hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. A limited number of walk-ins will be seen daily starting at 8 a.m. on a first come, first serve basis.
The programs are income based. Documentation needed includes proof of income for the past 30 days for all members of the household who are 18 years or older. This includes proof of disability, child support, wages, Social Security income, pensions, cash assistance, OWF, TANF, odd jobs, self employment or utility assistance check. Households with odd jobs, self employment and seasonal work must provide 12 months of income. Households that have odd jobs and/or self employment must also provide the most recent IRS tax transcripts. Household members claiming no income may be required to bring an IRS tax transcript or a verification of their non-filing status. Contact the IRS at 800-829-1040. The application also requires birth certificates or Social Security cards and birthdates for all household members, as well as a photo ID for the primary applicant. A current gas and electric bill is needed, even if the utility is in the landlord's name. A lease agreement or rent receipt is required when applying along with the landlords name, address and phone number. All households receiving rental assistance must provide the most recent HAP agreement. Households with a member who is classified as permanently and totally disabled must provide proof of disability at the time of the interview. Acceptable documentation includes award/benefit letter, bank statement with deposit amount, copy of the check, printout from social security office, Medicare part D, Most recent IRS form SSA 1099 box 3, or IRS Form 1040.
Making an appointment will not stop a pending disconnection. Any information provided by customers will be retained and may be shared with the utility companies.
